Shropshire MP encourages local bids for Commonwealth Games catering contracts

South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne is encouraging local companies which can cater to large events to bid for contracts to support the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.

Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 is looking for suppliers which can deliver nearly £5 million worth of catering services.

There are five separate opportunities to tender for catering services that will then operate at venues as well as live sites (fan zones).

Successful suppliers will have proven experience of delivering high quality catering operations and share a passion for providing relevant, high-quality food and drinks as well as exemplary levels of customer service.

The suppliers will also be expected to demonstrate initiatives that deliver social value and support the local community.

Mr Dunne said: “South Shropshire has a justifiably excellent reputation for food and drink, and after such a tough year for hospitality, these contracts may offer a brilliant opportunity for a local business.

"I encourage local companies to review the criteria and consider putting in a bid.”

Interested businesses are encouraged to apply via the Birmingham 2022 business portal at birmingham2022.com

The first procurement for these catering services is now open and businesses are invited to complete a selection questionnaire.

Initial bids should be submitted by April, with the final tender in May.

The contract will be awarded in the summer of this year.
