Expanding Telford-based Sirane creating new jobs
Packaging specialist Sirane is creating new jobs as it expands its Telford headquarters.
The firm has taken over the adjacent premises at Stafford Park and is increasing the available manufacturing and office space by 40 per cent.
Following a number of years of continual growth, the company jumped at the chance to add an additional 43,000 sq ft when it become available earlier this year.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said the expansion could lead to the creation of about 30 new jobs.
"Sirane's been growing for a number of years, we've had record turnover year after year, and we needed more manufacturing space and more warehousing, so the opportunity to expand on the same site was perfect," he said.
"Most of the work needed has now been done, and we're now preparing to start moving in. It's been an another incredibly busy year – and we're entering our busiest period of manufacturing, but by the early new year we hope to be fully moved in.
"We are employing more people and putting new machines in. We will probably end up with an other 30 or 40 people here pretty quickly I would think as the new machines come in, and possibly more than that with the way things are going."
Earlier this year Sirane acquired flexible packaging manufacturer B&G Products in a move which immediately expanded Sirane's product range and allows for expansion at B&G.
Sirane specialises in areas including absorbency and ovenable/microwaveable products, compostable packaging, films, boards, absorbent pads, and much more. It also manufactures a range of medical, horticultural, and specialist products.
As well as manufacturing and offices in the UK, it has additional sites in Mexico, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Turkey – as well as a network of agents and distributors – offering a global presence, with sales in more than 100 countries.
Meanwhile, Sirane has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities.
Finalists will be presented with trophies and certificates at a glittering ceremony at the House of Parliament on November 12 – where Sirane will discover the level of the award, having already battled against 500 nominations.
The company has won the award for Environmental Best Practice – largely for its work on the Earthpouch – a plastic-free packaging pouch solution.
Mr Balderson said: "The Earthpouch is a fabulous product, and it's great that the judges at the Green Apple Environment Awards have recognised this, and the work that's gone in to developing the product.
"Sirane's constantly innovating, and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking. Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is the hot-topic, and it's great that Sirane is able to offer this product."
Sirane's Earthpouch has also been shortlisted for a prize at the UK Packaging Awards, with the winners being announced at a ceremony in London today.
The Earthpouch is one of 10 finalists for the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year.
