Shropshire window company to be probed after complaints

Trading standards officers have launched an investigation into a Shropshire-based window company following complaints from customers that they have been left out of pocket after the firm went into administration.

Rea Valley Windows and Doors, based in Minsterley, went into voluntary administration in May last year.

A number of customers have now claimed work the firm was doing has been left unfinished despite money being paid out ‘upfront’.

One couple from Penley, Shropshire, Thomas and Anna Gill, claimed they paid out £4,500 to the firm to have new windows and a conservatory roof fitted at their house.

They said they paid the money but the firm never returned to do the work.

Thomas said: “We are just so angry about it all, we haven’t heard off them since we gave them the money. We are a young family, we had just had a baby and the company knew that. It has just been a horrible situation to be in, and we don’t want others to be stung like this.”

The family took to social media to warn others about what had happened to them, and other people who say they have been left short changed by the company have come forward.

Grant Tunnadine, Shropshire Council’s investigation, compliance and intervention team manager in trading standards and licensing, confirmed officers were reviewing individual complaints about the business.

He said: "It is our understanding that Rea Valley Windows and Doors Limited went into voluntary administration during May 2017.

"Consumers known to the service who have been affected by the closure of this business have been advised to contact the administrators, Absolute Recovery Ltd, in order to register their individual circumstances.

"Any complaints received by the trading standards service will be assessed, and where any evidence of criminal activity is identified then a formal investigation may be considered.

“This is an ongoing process, with officers reviewing individual complaints received by Citizens Advice Consumer Service (CACS), and I would advise any consumer affected by this matter to report their experience to CACS by calling 03454 04 05 06.”

A spokesman for Absolute Recovery Ltd said he was unable to comment and the Shropshire was unable to contact Rea Valley Windows and Doors.
