Capgemini has cut the ribbon on its new @Phoenix Midlands Delivery Centre in Telford, with the French technology and outsourcing giant's UK chairman Christine Hodgson attending the event to formally unveil the new premises.

It makes @Phoenix the main centre for the company's Telford-based operations, which provide support for clients including HMRC, although staff will also be based on the ground around Telford.

The office space comes with more than 1,400 work stations, stand-up meeting and collaboration points, informal meeting rooms, recreation areas inside the workspace, a tech hub, and a refurbished gym with virtual classes on offer.

It has also open a large restaurant for staff, modernised its reception area, and provided relaxation areas.

Ms Hodgson described the facility as "absolutely fantastic" as she spoke to team members in Telford at the formal opening of the new premises.

Head of operations Billie Major said: “Bringing our teams under one roof, our @Phoenix office is an agile workspace that inspires innovative delivery methods, aligns Capgemini with the market and increases competitiveness by attracting the brightest and the best.

"It strengthens Capgemini‘s corporate identity in Telford and makes the building a productive space for both our employees and visitors.”

The @Phoenix building will be the home of all of Capgemini's Telford-based delivery teams and we will service a number of clients from this Centre.

The decision to bring the Telford operations into the @Phoenix centre was taken for "numerous reasons", the company said.

Among them is the belief that teams that are closely located tend to work better together and the workspace design within @Phoenix is intended to make the most of collaborative working.

The company has not disclosed the size of the investment in the Telford site, but said it demonstrated "real commitment" to the town.

Telford & Wrekin Council chief executive Richard Partington and leader Shaun Davies were also present at the opening.
