A paedophile pensioner who had thousands of pictures of “sadistic” child sex abuse told police on his doorstep: “I’ve been waiting for this axe to fall.”

John James, aged 71, had a stash of more than 1,800 sick images downloaded over five years, including 100 of category A, depicting the most depraved kind of child abuse.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told how James, a musician, received a visit from the police at 7am on June 4, 2021 after they were provided with intelligence that indecent material had been downloaded at his address.
He made his comment about how he was waiting to be caught by the officers before being arrested.
Devices were seized and examined and found to have many images of young boys.
