National Highways have published an order explaining the proposal for the A5 eastbound between Shrewsbury and Junction 7 of the M54.
The proposal will close the layby on the eastbound stretch that comes shortly after the road passes under the B4394 bridge.
In an order outlining the reasons for the closure National Highways say that it will allow workers to carry out a weather station installation at the site.
The order also reveals that the work, which is set to start at the beginning of next month, could take two weeks - and the layby will be closed completely throughout that time.
An update from National Highways said: "The work is expected to start at 9pm on Saturday, February 1, and continue for two weeks. The layby will be closed for 24 hours a day for the duration of the work."
Emergency services vehicles and those carrying out the work will be exempt from the closure.
