The renowned music department of a Telford school has released its first music video under the New Road Academy name after years of entertaining the world as the Telford Priory School.

During the coronavirus pandemic, students remotely performed Sir Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing'. Amid global isolation, their touching video tribute went viral and eventually made its way to Sir Elton himself

The star fulfilled a promise to bring the students to one of his shows last year.

Since then, the school has been approached by Netflix, received invitations to audition for Britain's Got Talent and taken home multiple awards for its innovative approach to musical education.

The school, in Wrockwardine Wood joined the Learning Community Trust earlier this year and became the New Road Academy from the start of the last academic year.

Their latest musical venture, sees the school's talented staff and students produce a heart-warming Christmas music video featuring their rendition of the much-loved classic, 'Little Drummer Boy'.

Head of Performing Arts, Ben Millington said: “We wanted to create something special that would resonate with our community and spread a message of hope and joy,” said Ben Millington. “The students have poured their hearts into this project, and it’s been a privilege to watch them shine.”

Its release follows festive performances all over Telford, including at the Mayor’s Christmas Service at the Telford Minster, and the school hopes the video will "bring festive joy to families across the area" while showcasing the talent and potential of its students.
