The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that life expectancy at birth in Shropshire is one of the best in the West Midlands. 

Data shows that girls and boys born in the Shropshire Council area between 2021 and 2023 have a life expectancy of 84 years – one of the highest across the region. 

Across the West Midlands, the average life expectancy was 78.4 years for men and 82.5 years for women.

In Telford & Wrekin however, the life expectancy of boys is slightly below average, at 78.3 years - slightly down by 0.4 years when compared to the pre-pandemic figures of 2017 to 2019.
