An official complaint about Councillor Dan Morris – Shropshire Council's portfolio holder for Highways – has been lodged by Meole Brace ward member Bernie Bentick.
Lib Dem Councillor Bentick has accused Conservative Councillor Dan Morris of "misleading" Shropshire Council over the felling of a mature English Oak tree in Meole village.
During an interview with BBC Radio Shropshire, Councillor Morris accused Councillor Bentick of "self-promotion" in picking up what he called a “technicality”. Councillor Bentick has asked Councillor Morris to consider stepping down over the issue.
The row is partly because the law changed between the decision to chop the tree down being made and the act itself, which happened earlier this year.
Residents are said to be "furious" that the council did not carry out an official consultation into the felling, which is required now but was not then.
