Mark Davis, aged 41, was found guilty of two counts of rape after trial and admitted charges of sexual assault, taking indecent images and publishing an obscene article about raping and sexually abusing a child.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of making - in other words downloading - indecent images of children, including five of category A depicting the most depraved kind of child sex abuse.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that his “sickening” crimes came to light when he sent a photo of his victim to someone on the social media app Kik, boasting about what he'd done. The message came to the attention of the police and Davis was arrested.

The court was also told of the “violent” way he raped his victim. Some of his crimes date back to 2018 and some took place as recently as 2023.

In his rape trial back in June this year, Davis told the jury: “I am a paedophile,” a move Recorder Julian Taylor described as “unusual”.
