Irene Wilkinson, who was born in Welshpool in 1924, has received a special 100th birthday card from King Charles and The Queen in pride of place.
She was joined by family, friends and the caring team at Radbrook Nursing Home to celebrate the milestone with cupcakes and tea, and plenty of balloons.
Irene is the eldest of two sisters and trained as a nurse and physiotherapist.
During WWII Irene nursed injured soldiers returning from the frontline in hospitals in Liverpool and Chester, and she vividly recalls the relentless task of erecting and removing the blackout blinds from all the windows.
