Ooh baby, what a cute competition

After weeks of preparations, photoshoots and patient parents, the Shropshire Star’s baby of the year competition launches later this week.

Over the course of two weeks photographer Andrea Powell and the Shropshire Star team snapped pictures of hundreds of youngsters from across the county – all of whom now feature in a bumper 20-page supplement published in the Star later this week.

More than 650 children were photographed during the sessions at the Darwin Centre in Shrewsbury and at Telford Shopping Centre.

Parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties will now have the opportunity to vote for their winner, with tokens available to collect in the Shropshire Star from Thursday, June 21, to Saturday, July 21.

Some days will also feature bumper bonus tokens, with quadruple token editions, and even 10 available to collect on other days.

People will also be able to vote by SMS text message from July 9.

There are some serious prizes on offer across four age categories, and a special bonus for the overall winner.

There will be a £500 prize for the winner in each of the following categories – nought to nine months, 10 to 18 months, 19 to 35 months, and three to five years – and a £250 bonus for the overall winner.

It is the first year the Shropshire Star has run the competition, and Andy Maxwell, circulation sales manager for the Shropshire Star, said he had been thrilled at the response and urged people to get voting.

He said: “It is our first ever event so it was a bit of a jump into the unknown and we did not know what to expect but we were overwhelmed with the response and the number of entries in the competition – more than 650.

“The supplement looks fantastic and I am sure parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles will be excited to pick up a copy and get voting.”
