Richard Bifield, of Shropshire Historic Churches Trust, said: "In making its most recent grant, to Morville church, the trust has now passed the £1 million mark in grants to Shropshire churches since its launch in 1991.

"The award of £8,000 was for window and masonry repairs which should be completed in time for Morville to celebrate, next year, the 900th anniversary of its consecration in 1118.

"St Gregory, Morville, is a Grade 1 listed building which retains almost all of its original Norman features and was constructed within the precincts of a priory establishment which was destroyed in 1540 by Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries."

The trust is a registered charity which considers grant applications from churches and chapels of all Christian denominations for essential repairs and preservation, and more widely aims to encourage interest in the heritage of Shropshire's churches.
