Breakfast club for servicemen

About 120 veterans and serving military personnel will be starting the day with a hearty meal and a natter at a new breakfast club being launched this month.

The Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club will be launched at The Brewery Inn in High Street, Coalport on July 21.

Paul Blackburn, who is helping to set up the club, said demand was so great that the club was having to split into two groups of 60 members each, who will meet on alternate weeks.

Mr Blackburn, from Madeley, who himself served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, said it gave service men and women, past and present, a chance to meet socially.

"There is already a very successful breakfast club that meets in Shrewsbury, but a lot of the older boys don't drive," he said.

"We have got people of all ages attending, including those serving in the military at the moment. It's a good chance for them to have a good breakfast and meet up socially, and if any concerns or issues are raised we can then have a look at them too."
