The engineering officers, avionics and mechanical technicians, weapons technicians, survival equipment fitters, information technology communications technicians and apprentices all gathered to celebrate the occasion.

The day, which was taking place today, focuses attention on the careers in engineering and technical roles for women, and celebrates the achievements of women engineers.

While engineering is still a male-dominated field, the RAF is starting to see increasing numbers of young women choosing it as a career. RAF Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Ambassadors are working with children to promote STEM careers through workshops.

Flying Officer Lorren Clark, the 24-year-old junior engineering officer on 238 Squadron at RAF Cosford, said: “Women should and can be anything they want to be and they shouldn’t ever limit themselves.

"Women think about problems slightly differently to men, and there are so many amazing and intelligent women out there that would do amazing in the engineering world.

"I think engineering also has so much to offer women and will give them skills that can be used and applied in so many jobs, giving them great life skills and opening endless opportunities for the future.”
