Engineers from Western Power Distribution were called currently to the High Street to investigate the issue, which is believed to have been caused by low-voltage underground cables, close to the Shakespeare Inn.

The issue began earlier today, and the power company said it hoped to have electricity restored to the homes by 6.30pm.

Danny Clayton, a spokesman for Western Power Distribution, said: "Engineers are currently on site doing investigations and then will be looking to begin repairs.

"We believe there could be up to 51 customers affected."
