230 jobs could be created in Telford

Up to 230 jobs could be created in Telford after plans for 26 commercial units were put forward.

The application would see the 2,000sqft units with parking built on land at Halesfield 20.

The site is just bigger than three acres and mostly covered with trees.

The proposal, by agent Nadir Khan of NK Architects, on behalf of applicant Zafar Ahmed of House of Names, says the industrial units would be for business, general industry and storage or distribution use.

The report says: “We believe that this would suit the site best as it is currently in demand within this popular ever growing industrial park.

“By keeping the unit sizes relatively small, it makes the development attractive to wide range of businesses, from small to medium-large companies.”

The materials would be of similar colour to the industrial sites nearby, a mixture of brick and metal cladding.

There would be about 120 parking bays placed in front of the units.

Mr Khan said the development acknowledges the use of large commercial vehicles so has laid the site out in a manner to allow easy access and exit.

In the planning statement, Mr Khan adds: “We have shown that the development would be viable for the proposal site and will bring further improvements and prosperity to the local area and the wider region in form of creating jobs in the construction sector, transport and attracting businesses to the area.

“The proposed development has been designed in a way which has minimal impact on the existing surrounding businesses, buildings and infrastructure.

“Adequate parking and access is provided within the design proposal including a new pedestrian footpath linking Halesfield 20 to Halesfield 18.”

Meanwhile, more jobs are on the horizon after plans for a new production warehouse were approved by councillors.

Polytec Car Styling Bromyard Limited, an Austria-based company, will build a new base on the T54 Business Park, at Nedge Hill, bringing 243 new jobs to the area.

The company develops and makes plastic parts for the automotive sector, mainly for the outside of cars.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead for the factory earlier this month saying that it was great news for the area.

The company says the initial phase will create about 100 jobs, but says numbers could rise to 240 as the site is expanded. The majority will work shifts, a report to the council said.

Also, up to 50 more jobs could be created in Telford if plans for a new care home are approved.

LNT Care Developments hopes its plans for Lawley could also help ease the "significant shortfall" in the number of care bed spaces around the area, with the application for a 66-bed care home.

The company wants to build its new home for elderly people at the junction of West Centre Way and Lawley Drive – a site it says is the last undeveloped plot in Lawley Centre.
