Chirk Town Council are looking to hold a public meeting to appeal against plans to build a travellers site in Old Black Park Road in Chirk.

The plans were lodged by Wrexham Council to provide seven traveller pitches on land adjacent to the bungalow on Old Black Park Road.

Jackie Allen, town council chairman, said the council wants to hold the public meeting to show the strength of feeling and level of opposition from residents, and then look to form an action plan, ahead of a planning appeal hearing taking place at Wrexham Council's headquarters on April 26.

Councillor Allen said: "The general feeling from the majority of residents is that they aren't happy about the plans, they don't want these plans to go ahead and they want to ensure their objections are heard, and unfortunately we're too late to make an official appeal as the closing date was the end of last month, so now we are looking to find out how we can go about this properly with the help of a consultant.

"It's vital that residents' objections are listened to properly and that's why it's important that we object to these plans."

Councillors in Chirk will meet tonight (TUES) to find out what action can be taken after the closing date to make an official appeal.

She said: "Based on the outcome of the meeting, we will find out whether we will be able to hold a public meeting for residents and local businesses. We need to do all we can to ensure residents voices are heard in relation to these plans."

The planning appeal hearing on the development will take place on April 26 from 10am at the Memorial Hall in Wrexham.
