Police are examining an abusive email from Andy Roberts, a retired teacher from Cressage.

In the email he described how he wanted to punch, kick and slap Nicky Morgan, secretary of state for education and minister for women and equalities, for making his daughter sit "appalling" SAT exams.

The email was sent to both Mrs Morgan's office and Daniel Kawczynski, Shrewsbury MP.

Former music teacher Mr Roberts said he wanted to punch Mrs Morgan on the nose until her "eyes water", slap her until her "cheeks are red" and "kick her in the stomach until she is doubled up in pain".

He said she would then understand the suffering she had inflicted on his 11-year-old daughter and other children by requiring them to sit the English and maths tests last week.

He said his daughter was left "sobbing inconsolably" after the tests.

The email follows a concerted backlash against the SATs by teacher unions and parents who took their children out of school for a day this month.

The Metropolitan Police said the matter was being assessed. Mrs Morgan's office and Mr Kawczynski declined to comment.
