Police closed Bridge Road for several hours after the articulated vehicle blocked the route near Ladywood on Tuesday morning.

Sarah-Jayne Lynch, of West Mercia Police, said: "We were called at about 9.30am to Bridge Road after a lorry jack-knifed.

"The road was completely blocked for some time and a large recovery vehicle was required."

Police diverted traffic as they waited for a recovery vehicle.

David Hall was walking from Ironbridge to his home in Broseley when he saw the lorry stuck in the road. He said: "I saw it stuck on the bank. It must have jack-knifed on the corner. No cars could get past and the road was closed off."

Another passer-by, Toby, added: "It happened at the bottom of Bridge Bank. It's a hairpin bend leading up to Benthall. I think the driver got stuck on the bend."

The road reopened at 1pm.
