The Royal Oak Hotel in Welshpool was bought by the Bulldog Hotel Group earlier this year and has now reopened with a new restaurant and bar area. The company has also given the bedrooms a new look.

The firm took over the company from Emma and Malcolm Bebb for a fee which has not been revealed. Kevin Charity, founder and managing director of the Bulldog Hotel Group, said he is keen to maintain the hotel's historical links.

He said: "The Royal Oak has a fantastic history and we are keen to ensure that the refurbishment is done sympathetically, retaining the hotel's charm, whilst creating a more modern, attractive environment that is appealing to today's discerning guests." Mark Chapman, hotel manager, added: "We are delighted with how the hotel looks and are excited about welcoming customers old and new to the hotel."

The hotel is Grade II listed and began its life in the 18th century, however there is a chimney stack which features stone which came from an abbey that once stood in nearby village Pool Quay, which dates back to Elizabethan times.
