An appeal by a housing developer against a decision to refuse permission to build 45 homes in a village near the south Shropshire border will not be heard until the new year.

A hearing over proposals to build 45 homes in Leintwardine will be heard by a Government planning inspector on January 19.

The plans were refused by Herefordshire Council's planning committee earlier this year, but developer LWD has claimed councillors did not have good enough grounds for dismissing the proposal when housing is needed in the region.

Only Fools and Horses actor John Challis, who played Boycie, said before the original decision was made the estate planned off Rosemary Lane would almost "double the size" of the village and pledged his support to villagers via Twitter.

Almost 200 objections were made and a petition against the homes was signed by 373 people. The appeal hearing will be held at Hereford Town Hall.
