Shropshire firefighters step to it to rescue horse stuck in a trench

Shropshire firefighters today came to the rescue of a horse which became stuck in a trench in a  field - building a set of steps out of bales of hay to help the animal out.

Animal rescue specialists based at Wellington Fire Station were called out to help the distressed animal near Prees.

After making the improvised set of steps they used specialist slings to help guide the horse to safety.

Meanwhile, two cows were trapped in a canal near Quiseley Bridge, Whitchurch.

Fire appliance from Whitchurch was despatched to assist Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The farmer had released the cows from the canal before the fire service were on the scene.
