Market Drayton archery club aims to woo new members

More than 40 budding archers attended a taster session held by a club in Shropshire - raising hopes that more people will take up the sport.

The session was organised by the recently-founded Drayton Bowmen club, which will be holding weekly meetings in the wake of the successful event held at the Bubble Gym in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton.

Guests included Councillor Tim Beckett, the mayor of Market Drayton, who picked up a bow and had a go himself. The session was held in an air hangar with permission of the Royal Irish Regiment.

Mike Smith, club chairman, said: "We were delighted by the response from the public with people trying to find out more and experience archery and many wanting to become part of the new club.

"Since then I have had further messages from others wishing to know more and wanting to know if we are holding another "have a go event".

The club will host youngsters and adults as they work together to develop by passing on knowledge from advanced archers to novice beginners.
