Bryan Welch, 46, had been welding together the new structure in a field at Smethcott, near Church Stretton. Investigations are under way into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The father-of-three, a member of South Shropshire Motorcycle Club, was pronounced dead at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Police said today an inquest into the death of the steel erector, from Marshbrook, would be opened next week.

West Mercia Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: " postmortem has been held. It is being treated as a death at work and is not thought to be suspicious."

Mr Welch's wife of 20 years, Julia, today paid tribute to a "wonderful dad and amazing husband." The couple had three children – Jasmine, 22, Jessica, 21, and Jack, 19.

Mr Welch had been in the South Shropshire Motorcycle Club for well over 10 years and the club said in a statement: "Everyone at the club is devastated."
