Stephanie Peters said the turnaround in the fortunes of Harlescott Junior School in Featherbed Lane was testament to the hard work of everyone involved. She hailed it as a "real team effort".

The school was placed in special measures in November 2011 after a report by Ofsted inspectors said it was providing "inadequate education".

But it has now been listed as a "good school" following the publication of the results of a new inspection that took place in July.

Mrs Peters said: "The staff worked incredibly hard and it has been a real team effort from teachers, pupils and parents. It has been a superb team effort."

The report which was published earlier this week said there had been a number of improvements in standards.

It said that at the time of the previous inspection, attainment in Year 6 was in decline in both English and mathematics, and the school "did not meet the Government's floor standards". But it reported that attainment in Year 6 has "improved markedly" over the last two years.

It also stated that teaching and management standards have got better.

"Teaching has improved because of the rigorous, week by week monitoring of planning and pupils' learning coupled with high quality training which is linked to the needs of individual staff," it said.
