Spate of grass fires keeping Shropshire crews busy

A spate of grass fires broke out alongside the A442 between Telford and Shrewsbury today.

Forty square metres of grass and undergrowth caught fire at Madeley at about 1.30pm this afternoon at the same time as 250 sq m was alight at Rindleford.

Firefighters also tackled 100 sq m of grass alight at Stockton at 11.30am, at the same time as 150sq m was alight in Oldington, near Bridgnorth.

Crews were also called to Vicar Street, Oakengates, just before 2.30am, after conifers caught fire and a pallet bonfire in Birchmore, just before 10pm yesterday.
