And the warm weather helped ensure the Year 11 prom for students from The Community College in Bishop's Castle was a great success. The event was held at nearby Walcot Hall, Lydbury North.

Head of Year 11 Ian Lockhart said: "With a lovely warm summer evening, 85 students attended the event.

"It was a great success with the food being prepared by Liz Jones and her staff from the college dining hall and Jane, from Petals in Bishop's Castle, supplying the flower decorations and balloons, which made the tables look very special among the grandeur of the ballroom.

"I would like to also thank the Parrish family for allowing us access to their lovely gardens. Following the formalities the evening was rounded off with a disco run by Celebration Discos."

The glamour of school proms events is often matched by the form of transport.

Colourful forms of transport are often used to bring teenagers to their dress-to-impress occasions.

Recently girls at Meole Brace Science College's prom arrived at their Hawkstone Park venue by vintage bus. Meanwhile, old-fashioned buses, a vintage Rolls-Royce, a Ferrari and a decorated 1970s VW camper van were just some of the forms of transport that arrived in the grounds to drop off pupils from The Grange School in Shrewsbury for their event.
