Gavin Pearson, 71, of Wellington, had lung cancer and also suffered a series of strokes. He was a popular face in Wellington after owning The Falcon Hotel in Holyhead Road, now The Orleton Inn, with his wife, Lesley Pearson, for 26 years.

He had come to Shropshire form his home town of Wolverhampton, first to Bridgnorth, where he opened and ran his first pub, before moving to Wellington to reopen The Falcon Hotel in 1979.

Shortly after retiring in 2005 he lost his wife to lymphatic cancer.

He died on Saturday, March 23, in a Morris Care Home, where he had been for less than 48 hours.

His son, James Pearson said: "He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, but would never dream of asking anyone for anything in return. He had always been a true gentleman, that is how he has always been known, he was so kind and considerate."

The funeral is to be held at Telford Crematorium on Tuesday, April 9, at 4pm with flowers from family only and donations to Cancer Research UK.
