Car boot sale likely to stay at new Wellington base

Sunday car boot sales could be moving permanently to Wellington after a successful trial.

The sales were held on Sundays at the Civic Offices in Telford Town Centre until the end of last year.

But when Telford & Wrekin Council sold the Civic Offices site, the car booters were left looking for a new base.

Planning permission for the sales looks set to be granted this week for the north car park in Victoria Road and the car park in The Parade.

The site has already hosted three sales which have been well-attended by customers and attracted up to 26 booters, but organisers will need planning permission to hold more than 14 sales in a year.

Two letters from residents were sent in to the council during the consultation period.

One supported the plans but expressed concern over the possibility of the sale taking up car parking space which could be needed by the congregation of the nearby church. It also asked the council to ensure that any litter was cleared up.

A second letter also expressed concern over a lack of car parking space in the town while the sales were being held. It also said car boot sales were inappropriate so close to homes.

However, Wellington Town Council has not objected to the plans and planners believe there will still be enough parking spaces in other parts of the town for Sunday visitors.

And planners have reassured residents near to Victoria Road North car park that car booters will be able to park on the Naylors Row car park.

The plans board meets on Wednesday at 5.30pm at Abraham Darby Academy, Madeley.
