Keith Chegwin pops up with £100,000 cheque for Telford man Garry

A 56-year-old man from Telford was left stunned when TV presenter Keith Chegwin turned up at his place of work – with a cheque for £100,000.

Garry Latham, from Stirchley, scooped the cash after entering a prize draw on the internet.

The former Cheggers Plays Pop presenter had turned up at Mr Latham's house to surprise him, only to find he had already left for work.

Mr Latham was waiting for what he thought was his wife outside STS Logistics, in Stafford Park, when Cheggers ran over to tell him that he had won the prize.

When he was presented with the cheque by the TV personality, Mr Latham said: "Wow. What do you say to that? I can't believe it."

He entered the prize draw online a few months ago and said he would spend the money on holidays for him and his wife, Colette, and on home improvements.

He said: "You see people winning this amount of money but you never think it will happen to you.

"I thought something was up when I saw Keith Chegwin, but I didn't think I'd win that sort of money."

He spent about half an hour outside his work celebrating with his wife and talking to Cheggers.

Mr Latham said: "I don't think work will mind me spending time out here. I'm on £6.50 an hour and I don't think I'm going to be too bothered about £6.50 now!

"It's amazing. I've been saving up to do some home improvements and we were thinking about going on holiday but we weren't sure if we could afford it."

The prize draw was run by PCH Prizes, which sent a team to surprise Mr Latham at his home in Claverley Drive.

It was a re-enactment of the famous 'Down Your Doorstep' which Cheggers used to do on the Big Breakfast show.

However, the surprise moment was almost spoiled when the team got there only to realise he had already left for work.
