Motorcyclist killed in A5 horror crash with caravan

A motorcyclist died at the scene of an horrific crash in Shropshire despite desperate efforts to save him by paramedics. The man has not yet been named.

He died after his bike was in collision with a 4x4 towing a caravan on the A5 at Crackley Bank, near Shifnal.

The accident happened at about 10am on Saturday close to Burlington Pool, between the B4379 crossroads and the A41 junction.

The road was closed in both directions following the crash.

Suzie Fothergill, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: "Crews were called to re-ports of a collision between a motorbike and a 4x4 vehicle towing a caravan.

"The motorcyclist, a man, was found to have suffered significant injuries and was in cardiac arrest.

"Ambulance personnel carried out advanced life support and CPR but unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene. No-one else was injured in the incident."

She added two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, carrying a critical care paramedic and two doctors, were sent to the scene. An off- duty nurse was also in attendance.

Inspector Andy Smith, of West Mercia Police, has appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact police on 101, quoting reference 239S.
