Sisters Louise and Claire Minshall are enjoying the lighter side of life – after losing 17 stone between them in just eight months.

The pair, from Market Drayton, said that keeping it in the family had been the secret to their success after they started the Cambridge Diet. Claire, 21, said her size 26 size frame left her out of breath and she was worried about her health and embarrassed by her appearance.

She said: "At first I didn't think I could do it.

"We booked a holiday to Tunisia and that was the encouragement we needed.

"In the first week I lost a stone and Louise lost 11 pounds. That really motivated us to stick to the plan.

"It wasn't easy, especially in the beginning because for the first seven weeks we couldn't have a meal and we had to live off shakes.

"But it was sisters doing it together – we were always there for one another if someone was struggling."

Claire was 21st at her heaviest and now weighs 12st 2lbs. Louise is now 11 stone 8lbs after previously weighing 19st 12lbs.

"We both feel so much better," Louise, 23, said. "Before we never wanted to do anything or go out but now we are busy all the time.

"It was always difficult to find nice clothes but now we're going out in little dresses which I thought would never be possible.

"Sometimes I would get out of breath but now I feel much healthier. We are both so much happier and our lifestyle has dramatically improved."

The girls are now sticking to healthy eating programme and going to the gym three times a week.

The sisters were helped by Kerry Bentley and Helen Moore from The Ivy Suite beauty salon in Market Drayton. Both are Cambridge Diet specialists.

Kerry said: "The pair of them have been brilliant. Every week they followed the programme and did everything asked of them. I'm so pleased for them both."
