During the investigation police said that they believed Mr Round had been killed at an address in Church Street, St Georges, some time on June 27 last year, the day England were knocked out of the World Cup with a 4-1 defeat to Germany.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Round died from head and neck injuries.

A number of wheelie bins were seized for forensic examination and a major incident unit was set up, with more than 50 police officers and staff working on the case at its height.

Charge

Mr Round, who was the eldest of six children, was described by his family as being a "happy, caring person with a cheery smile and always a kind word".

His neighbours had described him as being a "gentle person" whom they said was a lost soul.

At court today James Haigh, 31, and Melissa Parkes, 22, of Church Street, St Georges, Telford, also admitted a charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

The charge said that they and Tinsley "knowing or believing that Stephen Round had been unlawfully killed and with the intent to pervert the course of public justice they agreed that an ambulance would not be called, his body would be temporarily concealed in a cupboard at Flat 1, 5 Church Street, St Georges, Telford, and his body would be taken from there and be disposed of in a manner that would prevent the police from discovering where he died and who had caused his death".

Haigh and Parkes both deny murdering Mr Round.

Mr Round, 43, who lived in Hayward Avenue, St Georges, left a partner and three children, aged 22, 17 and six.

The hearing continued this afternoon.
