Organisers of a Shropshire motorbike show which has raised more than £50,000 for a village primary school have been dealt a huge blow after their star attraction pulled out a week before the event.

Motorcycling legend Phillip McCallen was due to be the guest of honour at Shropshire Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Show, which will be held at Wistanstow Hall, near Craven Arms, on March 27.

But organisers said the star, who won the Isle of Man TT 11 times before retiring through injury in 1998, has been double-booked and will not be appearing at the event.

Ron Maund, show organiser, admitted the news was a "disappointment" but said there will be plenty of attractions on the day.

The event is celebrating its 20th anniversary and Mr Maund said they still hoped to attract a big name to mark the occasion.

The event will run from 10.30am until 4.30pm and entry is £3 per person. For more details call Mr Maund on (01588) 672551.
