A police investigation was under way today after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped at a Shropshire kebab house.

Detectives said the woman was attacked at the Flame takeaway in Market Square, in Wellington, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Five men were being quizzed by detectives at Telford's Malinsgate Police Station today on suspicion of rape and abduction.

They were arrested in the early hours of yesterday.

An incident support officer and an ambulance were sent to the takeaway just before 5.30am when paramedics took a woman to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Forensic teams scoured the takeaway throughout the day yesterday and the shop remained cordoned off and under police guard until late last night.

It is not yet known if the woman was a customer at the takeaway.

Acting Detective Superintendent Paul Williamson, leading the investigation, said: "We can confirm that officers are investigating a serious sexual assault which occurred at Flame, Market Square, Wellington, between midnight and 5am yesterday.

"Five men are currently in custody in Malinsgate and are helping police with their inquiries.

"We would appeal for anyone who may have been in Flame or in the Market Square area at the time or saw anything between the hours stated to contact police as a matter of urgency."

It is understood the victim received medical treatment in hospital.

The takeaway was closed today and no-one was available for comment.
