PoliceThe family of a Shropshire woman who has been missing for a week today urged her to "please come home".

The husband and daughter of Sheila Kane, who has not been seen since she left her home in Belvedere Gardens, Broseley, last week, believe the 57-year-old is still alive and could have travelled out of the area.

Mrs Kane disappeared last Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday morning and, despite a massive police search, has not been seen since.

Today Laura Kane said her mother had been suffering from depression for years, but it was "completely out of character" for her to leave the house without saying where she was going.

She said her mother had not taken her wallet or mobile phone and had only left the house with a packet of cigarettes.

Miss Kane said: "I was with her on Monday night up until about 10pm when she went to bed.

"When I went into her bedroom on the Tuesday morning, there was no sign of her and I ran round the house in a panic looking for her."

She said: "It's almost like a nightmare you know you're not going to wake up from."

She said her mum loved walking and would sometimes walk "for miles and miles, sometimes as far as Benthall".

Des Kane, Mrs Kane's husband, described his wife as a kind-hearted woman who would do anything for anyone.

"She always put other people before herself and loved talking to people," he said.

It is believed Mrs Kane was dressed in green check pyjamas, a three-quarter length hooded coat, black eskimo-style boots and light-brown cord trousers with bleach stains on them.

Miss Kane said her mother worked at the Coalbrookdale Medical Practice before having to give it up due to ill health.

"If she reads this story, I'd urge her to give us a call," she said.

"If anyone else reads this story and has seen her or knows where she might be, please get in touch with the police."
