I have recently noticed a sign at the side of the main road in Pant called Vron Vedw Lane.

As a Welshman I feel rather annoyed at this incorrect spelling. There are no such words as Vron Vedw.

It should be Fron Fedw as Fron means "breast" or "hillside" and Fedw means "birch".

There is no letter V in the Welsh alphabet, but an F in Welsh is sounded as a V and a FF in Welsh is sounded as an F in English.

Further along the road towards Llanymynech is a sign called Rhiew Revel Road.

This again is wrong as it should read Rhiw Refail Road; Rhiw meaning "hill" and Refail meaning "smithy".

It's a pity that these people who are responsible for making these signs don't take time out to make sure the spelling is correct.
