Panto fun is online – oh, yes it is!

With no way to hold its annual pantomime in the village hall a drama group has moved online to offer some lockdown light relief.

SHREWS PIC / DAVID HAMILTON PIC / SHROPSHIRE STAR PIC 11/3/21 Ready to star in a pantomime online, Will Beavis, as King Boris, and daughter Nancy Beavis, aged 15, as Snow White, both of Wall Under Heywood, appearing in 'Snow White and the Six Dwarfs'..

The Cardington Capers has been holding an annual show for the past 25 years, but like many organisations has seen lockdown restrictions scupper its plans for the live event.

So, with the village hall venue out of the question the group has set about producing an online version – filmed over Zoom – which will go live on YouTube tomorrow evening.

The production, Snow White and the Six Dwarves – a nod to the government’s ‘rule of six’ – is a topical take on pandemic life and modern politics, with even a reference to the recent chaos seen at the Handforth Council meeting that was presided over by Shropshire’s own Jackie Weaver.

The production has been written by Fran Beck and largely edited by her husband Nick.

In a normal year the pantomime takings would have raised money for a good cause, but this year people who watch online are being asked to consider a donation to the Midlands Air Ambulance via a Just Giving page set up for the event.

Fran said they had tried to provide an entertaining take on the current events.

Topical

She said: “The whole script is quite topical. We have told the story of Snow White as if it is happening in lockdown.”

Fran said that the cast had enjoyed taking a different approach to creating the production.

She said: “I think everyone has really enjoyed doing it.

"There have been challenges and frustrations but the cast have had a sneak preview of it and everyone seems very happy with what we have produced.”

She added: “Of course everyone is saying what are we going to do next and I am just hoping the village hall will be open!”

The pantomime will be made available to watch from 7.30pm tomorrow and those who want to watch should go to YouTube and search for ‘Cardington Capers Snow White’.
