Murder Ballad, Albert's Shed, Shrewsbury - review
When a group of young people decide to put on theatre with a difference in their home county, it has to be applauded.
When the result is an excellent night of edge-of-the-seat musical theatre, it is all the more impressive.
Albert's Shed in Shrewsbury is playing host to Murder Ballad, an American rock opera with a cast of just four together with a band.
Young director, Dan Rogers, put together the team in his second major production and plays one of the roles in a love triangle with a delicious twist.
Murder Ballad tells the story of Sara, torn between bad boy Tom, and up-market Michael.
As the title suggests, there is going to be a murder. But whodunnit?
Dan wanted to bring immersive theatre to Shropshire, putting the audience as close to the action as possible.
The result? I was gripping the edge of my seat as the story unfolded.
Actors Mollie-Anna Riley, Jacob Kohli, Mary-Anne Willets and Dan delivered strong singing and acting, and the band added a rock edge to the musical.
Murder Ballad has its last night at Albert's Shed in Shrewsbury tonight.
