The 38-year-old actress, comedian and writer is bringing her show I Was A Teenage Christian to Oakengates Theatre in Telford on June 8.

The comedian will be reliving her teenage years as an evangelical Christian during the hour-long comedy show, which she performed at Edinburgh Festival last year.

It will also be her first time back in the area since she visited as a child.

She said: "I haven't been to the Telford area since I was 10.

"I went to Blists Hill and remember getting into a row with my dad.

"I kept finding corners to read my book and got told off for not looking at the exhibit.

"I'm looking forward to coming to Telford.

"I''ll be doing a show on election day but there will definitely be time for people to go for a drink afterwards or go and vote."

She will be performing in Telford as part of her tour, which runs into next month.

Katy, who was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said: "The show is about me becoming a Christian when I was 13.

"I had a spiritual experience.

"I went four or five times a week to church.

"I fell madly in love with the worship band leader. He was second only to Jesus.

"I preached in school assemblies, in the shopping centre and where I could.

"I was really into it until I went to Oxford University to study theology.

"I started to have doubts from the age of 17. I wanted to do theology but the church wasn' t keen.

"They tried to ban Harry Potter books and I thought that was ridiculous.

"I found a lot more people than I expected have had various religious experiences as a teenager so they have been able to relate."

Katy performed her first professional comedy gig in a London pub in 2004, before joining acclaimed sketch comedy troupe Ealing Live!, and touring around the country with her own show.

She won a British Comedy award for her TV sketch series Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show in 2008 and has since written for and appeared in numerous films, TV programmes and radio shows.

In December 2012 she participated in the 2012 Christmas Special of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

Her partner was Anton du Beke and the pair ended up coming second to last.

She also wrote her first novel, Brenda Monk is Funny, which was published in 2014.

The show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £14 and are available from the box office on 01952 382382.
