The town was awash with colour and music as the traditional parade brought together groups from across Telford & Wrekin to mark Telford's 50th birthday.

The themes were looking back on Telford’s history and celebrating what makes the town great today.

Telford & Wrekin Council said 15,000 people watched the procession.

Gareth Oldcorn, 37, who brought his daughter Paige along to the festivities, was impressed with the offering.

Gareth, from St Georges, said: “I think it’s brilliant.

“There’s plenty for the little one to do, and there’s something for the adults too.

"Telford is a big place and it’s good to have events on that the whole town can look forward to.

“It does feel like there’s more and more things on in Telford lately which is good.

"I tend to come up most weekends when they have something on in the town centre.”

Katie Ecclestone from Wolverhampton brought her husband Richard and children Emily, four, and Joseph, two, along.

Katie, 34, said: “We really enjoyed it.

“We brought a picnic and had that in the park and then had a walk around the fair.”
