The group, Our Heroes, holds a fun day at the Plough Inn in Wellington every May, with this being the ninth year.

The landlord and landlady Ed and Ruth Lowe tirelessly raise money for the group, which disperses funds to various military charities including Help for Heroes and SSAFA.

The event, which began at 12pm on Sunday, included live music from the Zoobs, Waiting for Hollywood, Wellington Brass Band and the Shrewsbury Buglers Association.

The traditional fly past by an airplane wowed the spectators, and rare animals from the Exotic Zoo were also available to be seen.

The fun day which is held each May attracts around 1,500 people who are traditionally treated to a mini air display, live bands, an auction, raffle and a tombola. There were also stalls selling arts, crafts and cold and hot food.

Our Heroes has raised £125,000 for forces charities over the past eight years, although it supports other good causes as well.

Landlord Edward Lowe said of Our Heroes: “What we raise, we share with Gurkha’s Welfare, Care for Casualties, Help for Heroes, SSAFA, Shrewsbury Bugle Association and others."
