Shaquille Dennis-Miller is hoping to find a new star as he is organising Telford’s Got Talent to mark the town’s 50th birthday

A panel of judges including Channel 4’s Gogglebox star Sandra Martin will be helping to pick the winner.

The community event is the brainchild of the town’s Miller family who said 120 gifted people including singers, dancers and musicians have signed up for the competition, which will see the finals and live show held at The Place, in Oakengates, on June 15.

In the meantime contestants will be put through their paces at a series of selection events that will start with auditions this Saturday and on April 22 at the Ice Lounge, Eden complex, Canongate, in Oakengates, from 10am to 6pm.

The most successful contestants will perform at the semi-finals on May 25 followed by the live show on June 15, both events will be held at The Place theatre.

Prizes will be £500 cash and a trophy.

It is being organised by business support officer Shaquille Dennis-Miller and his siblings Tannisha, Jamaal and Anton.

“Since the launch we have been asked for 120 application forms, we have received 80 back. We have had such a positive response from the Telford community. The people have been really enthusiastic about taking part.

“When first launched Telford’s Got Talent prize fund was sitting at £250, however, Peter Richardson Estates kindly doubled the prize.

Invited

“We would like to wish everyone the best of luck,” Shaquille said.

Tickets cost £12 for adults and £8 for children and will go on sale on April 30.

Shaquille was invited by Sandra Martin to be her guest on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother Bit on the Side where he met reality stars Rylan Clark and former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here winner Joe Swash. He says she has visited Telford many times and was pleased to be returning.

He previously had a stint as a regular on TV’s Paul O’Grady Show with the Caribbean Sunshine Steel Band group.

The project has also attracted funding support from Telford and Wrekin Council and the backing of the borough’s African & Afro-Caribbean Resource Centre.
