The Musical Theatre Production Company will perform Alice in Wonderland this Saturday at Cosy Hall.

Director Deborah Owen said that the company, made up of youngsters aged from nine to 15, had loved making their own mark on the classic story.

"Because it's such a classic and they've seen the Disney version, as well as the more sinister Johnny Depp versions, this version they're doing is their family pantomime. They're learning all the quirky and funny side of it.

"Everything has been going really well. They've really enjoyed it. Most kids want to do Alice in Wonderland as part of their young acting careers."

Deborah is a professional pantomime director, and light and sound is being produced to a professional standard.

"It's a very professional sow, albeit a small community project," she said. "The kids are having a fabulous time with it all.

"As well as having fun and doing the shows, they're working towards an accreditation from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic arts. LAMDA is the highest governing body for drama, dancing and signing. Once they've finished Alice, they'll be going in for examinations in October. That then goes towards their UCAS university points, event though some of them are very young. It's a stepping stone."

Tickets are currently available for the show for £8 or £5 with concessions. There will be two performances on Saturday, at 2.30pm and 6.30pm. Those interested should text any orders to 07576 511971. There are various collection points in Newport.
