Dominic Griffin returned to New College Telford to lead a dance movement workshop for performing arts students

Dominic Griffin studied for a BTEC in Performing Arts and Technical Theatre at New College Telford from 2009-11 before taking a degree in musical theatre at Arts Educational Schools in London.

He is now part of Bill Kenwright’s touring company, which has been on the road with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Evita since the start of the year.

And as the show rolled into Wolverhampton, Dominic took time to spend a few hours back at New College Telford, leading a dance movement workshop for second year performing arts students.

He also shared stories about his experience in the industry.

Mandy Parker, head of vocational studies and higher education at New College Telford, said: “It’s always great when our past students return to give something back to the next generation.

“It is a great inspiration and encouragement to current students to see what can be achieved with commitment, talent and hard work.

“Dominic told our students how his New College Telford course, and subsequent university studies, allowed him to find out what he really wanted to do – and whether he could do it.

“He said it allowed him to become comfortable in performing, and in life, and build both his skills and his confidence.

“We are really grateful to Dominic for taking the time out of his busy schedule to work with our students.”

During his time at New College Telford, Dominic took the lead role of Tony in its production of West Side Story, which was staged at The Place, Oakengates.

Since then he has also worked with well-known choreographer Arlene Phillips – a former Strictly Come Dancing judge – on the national tour of Jackie: The Musical.

The current crop of New College Telford students are aiming to continue their performing arts training at several universities, including Edge Hill in Lancashire, Aberystwyth, Cardiff and De Montfort in Leicester.
