Ludlow’s Rooftop Theatre Company was given the grant by Arts Council England for brand new community theatre project in partnership with Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club

Rooftop will be working with the members and coaches of the club to devise a physical and dramatic play using the movements, exercises and rituals of boxing. The story will be based on the history of the club, the experiences of the members and the local community.

The show, Boxing Club Rules, will be performed at Ludlow Amateur Boxing club on Wheeler Road over the weekend of November 17-18. Performances will take place throughout the weekend and tickets are available through http://www.rooftoptheatre.co.uk/

Paul Sayers, co-founder of Rooftop Theatre, said: “The boxing club has been incredibly approachable about putting on a theatre production in the club. I joined to find out more and have been amazed how much I enjoy the great exercise and sense of community that boxing training provides. We are delighted to have secured Arts Council funding which is a real vote of confidence in our collaboration.”

Duncan Morris, chairman of the boxing club said: "This is a really innovative project for us, to be working with a theatre company, which will bring new people into the club and raise awareness of its community spirit and the great things it offers for all ages."

Rooftop Theatre has been based in Ludlow for over five years and has built a reputation for sell-out productions at Ludlow Brewery and at the Assembly Rooms. This is its first Arts Council England funded production.

Tickets for the play cost £15 for adults and £10 for U18 and students.
