The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre at Craven Arms has organised cookery classes, art shows and film screenings to keep people entertained next month.

In the gallery until July 17 the Craven Arms Art Café Artists showcase the work of a wide variety of local artists and media.

Amongst those whose work is shown is ceramic artist Emma Summers and her exhibition Portal. Emma, in partnership with Loudwater Studio, is inspired by the medieval market town of Ludlow and the community of South Shropshire.

Award winning artist, James Boardman Woodend showcases his exhibition of framed photographs of wildlife, nature and landscapes.

The gallery is open from 10am – 5pm and entrance is free. All pieces on display will be available to purchase.

For those wanting to help the environment there will be a volunteer work group every first Sunday of the month to give the meadows a little TLC. All ages and abilities welcome.

A class on cooking with Summer Fruits will be held on July 10 from 10am-2pm.

It will be a chance to celebrate British berries and juicy fruits, from sensational Summer Pudding, to the peachiest pies and most fabulous fools. With her flair for flavours and her gardening knowhow, Milly Rees will show how to bring out the character of fruits by partnering them up with other ingredients from the garden, hedgerow and larder.

For those with a healthy attitude, Milly will share her favourite tips and recipes for lighter desserts and you will be shown ways to preserve and store this season’s harvest to be enjoyed for months to come.

Places cost £35 per person and booking is essential.

To mark National Dragonfly Week, a special event will be held on July 21.

There will be an afternoon of Dragon hunting, spotting some of the Dragonfly Challenge species, learn about the life of Dragonflies and search underwater for Dragonfly larvae with a spot of pond dipping. To book a place contact: conservation@british-dragonflies.org.uk

Flicks in the Sticks will be showing Peter Rabbit (PG) on July 27.

The film starts at 5.30pm with themed crafts, refreshments and a licensed bar available from 4pm.
