The contest raised a record £1,040, with 40 people attending from across the county.

It was the fourth such event organised by insolvency specialists BCR, based at the Battlefield Enterprise Park near Shrewsbury, and the second in a row won by Hatchers Solicitors, of Shrewsbury.

Taking place at the Corbet Arms in Uffington, the quiz was themed on Britishness and BCR managing director Phil Wood presided as quiz master.

BCR director Nick West said: “Our annual charity quiz is one of the main fundraising activities we hold and I’m thrilled that so many people joined us in support of its fourth successful year.

“An enjoyable evening with good-humoured rivalry achieving a nice sum for the local hospice. A big thank you to everyone who attended, donated and contributed to the event, and congratulations to team Hatchers who held their title for the second year.”

Val Edwards, a partner at Hatchers, said: "We are really thrilled to win this event for a second successive year and to have our other team in second place is the icing on the cake, so we are very pleased to be supporting BCR in their splendid efforts to raise funds for such a good cause as Severn Hospice."
