Shropshire Charity Concerts Choir and Orchestra will be performing JS Bach's St John Passion in Shrewsbury Abbey next month, to support Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s work with and for vulnerable older people in the county.

However, Shropshire Charity Concerts Choir and Orchestra are no strangers to performing these great choral works in Shrewsbury Abbey.

Life

John Moore, Director of Music at Shrewsbury School, brings it to life and will conduct the performance.

One of the choir's main aims is to support as many local charities as possible through their concerts.

Since their Christmas Messiah performances began 30 years ago, they have been able to donate more than £50,000 to a large range of local charities and organisations.

Donate

The choir will donate the proceeds from this performance to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, to help provide vital services for local older people.

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by Shropshire Charity Concerts Choir and Orchestra as their nominated charity for this high profile event. It will be both a privilege and a pleasure to attend what promises to be a high quality, dramatic performance of St John Passion at Shrewsbury Abbey, and especially in the run up to Easter."

The concert takes place on April 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 each, which includes a programme with notes and translations, and are available from any of the following: Shrewsbury Abbey; Theatre Severn box office on 01743 281281; Old Market Hall box office on 01743 281281; Salop Sheet Music, 294 Monkmoor Road, 01743 365 561and ticketsource.co.uk/shrewsburyschoolcommunitychoir
